Taught by Cheryl Taylor of Taylor Made Science
Meets Thursdays from Aug 25 to May 12 (see calendar on website below for holidays)
11:00am-12:30pm Pacific; noon-1:30pm Mountain; 1:00-2:30pm Central; 2:00-3:30pm Eastern

Prerequisites: successful completion of high school level Algebra 1; completion or current enrollment in high school Geometry is recommended

Recommended for: non-science majors who want a strong honors level Physics course on their high school transcript but prefer not to take Advanced Placement science courses (Students should take either Honors Physics or AP Physics 1, not both)

Course description: Honors Physics explains the laws that govern our physical surroundings. Topics include: motion, force, energy, work, power, gravity, thermodynamics, waves, sound, magnetism, electricity, and light. The course is Algebra-based and there will be a heavy math component. Through this course, students will become comfortable using Physics formulas and will also develop an understanding of the “how” and “why” these formulas work. The textbook used for this class is conceptual as students will be required to cover the “concepts” for homework outside of class. The math component of the course will be added during class time. The course is “hands-on” with a strong lab component.

Supplies needed: The supply/registration fee covers the cost of a lab kit that will be used to complete the 25 labs included in the course. These lab kits will be mailed over the summer. A few additional household supplies will be needed, as well as a scientific calculator. Written materials will be provided online and will need to be printed. A textbook will be needed for the course. A used copy can usually be purchased fairly cheaply online through places like Amazon and Textbooks.com.
