Science Detectives – Middle School Science
Meets on Thursdays, from Aug 27 – May 13
11:00 am – 12:30 pm (Central); 12:00 noon – 1:30 pm (Eastern)
Taylor Made Science is offering interactive, live, virtual science classes for the 2020-21 school year. These are not your ordinary online science classes! Each student will receive a lab kit with the supplies needed to complete the experiments and hands-on activities typically done in an in-person class. Through Zoom, students will be able to work with their lab group each week as they collect and analyze lab data in the safety of their own home. No need to wear a mask or stay 6 feet apart in the classroom, and no worries about handling shared laboratory equipment!
Science Detectives is designed as a middle school introduction to formal science work. The first part of the year will be devoted to basic science skills and techniques, such as scientific inquiry, scientific measurement, math and graphing used in science, data collection and analysis, and technology. With a solid background in the art of scientific inquiry, students will then explore how science is used to solve crimes through Forensic Science at the middle school level. Forensics topics such as evidence recovery, tracks, impressions, fingerprints, blood, DNA, bones, arson, ballistics, toxicology, soil, pollen, glass, hair, and fibers will be investigated. Science Detectives students must be at least 11 years old and going into 6th grade at the start of the school year. Tuition includes a take-home lab materials kit.
