Course description: Scientific Math and Measurement is an upper middle school course designed to equip students with the skills needed to be successful in high school honors science courses. Calculator math skills, scientific measurement skills, making and reading charts and graphs, and working with basic science formulas will be covered. Students will also learn to work cooperatively in groups and develop the logic and critical thinking skills necessary for succeeding in an honors level high school science course. Mastery of these scientific math and measurement skills will be demonstrated several times each semester through hands-on skills test.
Supplies needed: The supply/registration fee covers the cost of a lab kit that will be used to complete the 32 hands-on activities and skills tests covered during the course. These lab kits will be mailed over the summer. A few additional household supplies will be needed, as well as a TI-30X calculator. All written materials will be provided online and will need to be printed, but no additional textbook will be needed.
