Teen Creative Writing Course
This class is taught by me Mera. I’ve been a professional writer in many different ways for almost 20 years. I had my first publishing credits in high school after taking a creative writing class, early literacy training and participating in children’s theater. I went to school for Writing and Linguistics and began writing in journalistic, business and creative mediums for a variety of publications.
I’ve also been involved in editing, proofreading and publishing. Each child will leave with a personal zine, a large group publication and a small-scale newsletter written, edited and published by the children with my help.
They’ll also leave this course with a near-professional portfolio in different genres of writing and a letter of recommendation/certificate.
This course is based in the CSRA. There will be online classes weekly and one in-person (socially distanced) workshop each month. Each will be themed but will cover a variety of topics and allow each child the opportunity to use their new skills on the type of writing they prefer.
Kids are encouraged to attend both online and workshops, but those who don’t attend the online courses will still have access to the materials, sent to them via email.
Materials are very simple: 2 journals, access to internet (webcam, microphone, speakers), a blue or black pen, a colored pen, another colored pen or highlighter, a binder
optional: a thumbdrive if extra storage is needed on computer
