Course Descriptions:
CHARACTER BUILDING-
Regardless of faith or background, all students are encouraged to continually learn, grow, and take personal responsibility for their actions. Character Building class is a great time to embrace God’s promises for our lives, learn more about how to love others well, learn how to apply biblical principles to how we live, and how to increase empathy towards others. For the 2020-2021 school year, we will be covering the topic of Love in Character Building.
MUSIC-
“Experience” music every class, either through singing, musical movement, listening, learning instruments or playing musical games (to highlight musical concepts). The focus this year will be on teaching through musical stories. We will read many books this year that will bring us right into the lives of great composers and also use interesting books to introduce instruments and musical concepts. We will prepare for creative ways to share our music with families. Older grades will learn the recorder and younger students will experiment with many types of instruments. We’ll have fun and hopefully be inspired by other musicians as we go forward on our path creating our own stories.
GARDENING/NUTRITION
In this course students will utilize the tower garden (an aeroponic vertical growing system) while examining different aspects of gardening and the benefits thereof. We will explore various fruits, vegetables and plants in hopes of gaining appreciation for planting and cultivating seeds, including how they benefit our community and health.
SERVANTHOOD- This course involves the brainstorming, planning and initiation of student-inspired community service projects, As students are led to selflessly serve those in need around our community, we will specifically focus on honoring those in uniform, from Veterans to those currently serving in the military and law enforcement. We will aim to foster servant hearts, develop character rooted in love and recognize how that looks to each individual.
