About Camp 42
Camp 42 is a place for exploring life, the universe, and everything! We are a unique overnight summer camp that presents our educational programs from a specifically secular and humanist perspective. This means that we weave elements of critical thinking, ethics, scientific inquiry, philosophy, social justice, and comparative religion throughout our traditional summer camp activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, swimming, nature walks, outdoor skills, and campfires.
Our goal is to provide a place where campers can explore their developing worldviews and how to put their values into practice, ask questions, and make friends in an environment that is supportive of critical thinking and skepticism.
We welcome ALL children and staff members! We believe one of our fundamental responsibilities as adults and leaders is to teach our children about the world around them, and that includes giving them an opportunity to learn and interact in a nonjudgmental environment with other children who may come from different backgrounds. Camp 42 is a safe environment where all children and adults will be treated with respect and encouraged to understand and accept others, regardless of religious affiliation, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other characteristic that makes them the unique, wonderful individuals that they are. Teaching compassion and empathy for one another is important at Camp 42 — labels that define our differences are not.
We offer one-week overnight camps for kids 8-17yo with a Leadership-in-Training program available for 16-17yo teens. Locations include Aiken, SC, Tishomingo, MS, and Apopka, FL. Camp registration is $600 per camper, with a $50/camper discount for the second and additional sibling. Our MS and FL locations offer an additional $50/camper discount for all registrations received before 2/29/2020. Financial aid is available. We are staffed with trained volunteers and accept volunteer staff applications from those 18yo and older. Vetting for staff includes reference and background checks.
